Question: Can I wire my Pioneer 10" DVC 4Ohm Woofer 1200W (TSW260D4) subs to 1ohm, to a 1ohm stable mono amp?

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 06:36 AM PST

If you wire each speaker's pair of voice coils in parallel, you get 2 ohms, and if you then wire 2 speakers in parallel you will get down to 1 ohm. Yes, you will match the output of the amp.

Question: My bass from my amp and sub keep going after my car is off??????

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 05:30 AM PST

First, when you turn the car off, the power to the remote turn-on lead (usually thin blue wire) should be cut. Meaning the amplifier should turn off. That would be the first thing I'd look into. Use a voltmeter to watch voltage on that wire OR turn the car off, the bass keeps playing, go to the amp and disconnect ONLY that thin wire. Does the amp keep playing? If so, it's faulty. Flatout. There's no speaker problem you could possibly have that would force the amplifier to remain on after power has been removed from that remote turn-on lead.

Sounds like you have a faulty amp anyway.... but really just curious how the amp is staying on after the car is off.... unless you have it improperly connected.

Question: Semi-technical Car Audio question?

Posted: 26 Nov 2014 01:34 AM PST

Yes, the 2 ohm version.
A pair of dual 2's can be wired for 1/2, 2 or 8 ohms. Wired for 2, they'll get 250w rms each which would be ideal.
D4's can go 1, 4 or 16 ohms.

Question: What type security is there on the train?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 03:05 PM PST

On which train and in which country?
In some countries trains are escorted by armed guards, in others that's not neccessary and school children ride on the train on their own without the need of protection.

Question: On average, how many miles did a wagon train travel in a day?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 02:50 PM PST

I guess your talking about railway wagons, well it depends on what train its on, it could travel across many states. (US) Or from London to somewhere in Scotland. (UK) It just depends on what train it is on and what service it provides. So anywhere from 0.1 to hundreds!

Question: I have a problem with a train?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 11:00 AM PST

You're in the wrong train club. Seriously, you get what you like. Life is too short to....really, these people are really like this? Wow.

I guess it depends on how thick your skin is. If this situation is going to come up, you're going to need to be able to deal with these idiots. If it stresses you out, it's simply not worth it. It's a hobby, which is meant to be enjoyable and fun.

If you lived near me, I'd happily build tracks with you.

Question: Do you consider streamlined steam locomotives 'real' steam engines?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 10:52 AM PST

Of course they are. Some of them were rolling works of art in my opinion. Underneath the artistry beat the same heart as any other steam locomotive. I got to be the pilot engineer on the UP's 844 steam engine. It's the exact same basic layout (they were built by different builders but are very similar) as Southern Pacific's old Daylight which was a streamlined train that has been called one of the most beautiful trains in the world.

Question: What are the alternative sources for metro rails?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 04:56 AM PST

Alternative as opposed to what source? Surely they can only be obtained from a rolling mill that uses the correct grades of steel alloys.

Question: I have a 1991 Honda accord that died when I was driving any idea of what could be wrong?

Posted: 25 Nov 2014 03:18 PM PST

My first thought is the ignition switch, a common weakness in that era Honda. If so, the warning lights will not come on when the engine dies. It can also be the igniter, also known as the Ignition Control Module (ICM). Those can become intermittent and quit when they heat up. In that case there will be warning lights but no spark. See the sources.

I doubt it is the alternator, which would leave you with a dead battery when it died. I also doubt it is the notorious main relay (fuel pump relay) that normally only causes failures when trying to start.

As to the first one, it has to be the wing. The other important parts (elevator, flaps, ailerons, propeller) work to help keep the plane up once it gets airborne, but the wings work on the lift portion to help with the climb portion

Question: What s the best way to get my Private Pilot s License before college?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 12:13 PM PST

CAP pilots can assist you get some practice (even training if they are a CFI) -

One advice, stay away from "flight simulator games" -
These can do you more wrong than good training -

I would recommend an organized private`pilot course -
Rather than bits and pieces here and there which is rather questionable -
CAP pilots can give you the private pilot theory and assist you -

Do not imagine, you will get your license with "45.1" hours flight time -
The average in USA is about 60-65 hours -

Do you knowledge (written tests) when you are age 16...
They are valid for 24 months -

The average cost of the private pilot training is $10,000 in USA -
But with what you may get "free" here and there, you will save 2 or 3,000 -

Question: Cheapest way to become a pilot working for an airline in UK?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 11:43 AM PST

There is no such thing as a "cheaper program" in aviation -
Cheaper is not in the vocabulary, except pilot salaries and benefits -

The tuition for the airline transport pilot licence (ATPL) is about £80,000 -
Training takes about 16 months -
Further qualifications are sometimes desirable for additional tuition -
Such as type ratings on A320 or B737 airplanes -

The airline pilot licence is NO guarantee of airline pilot employment -
Your pilot career might be limited to sightseeing flights with an aero club -

Banks do not loan tuition for pilot training -
Too many pilots find themselves unemployed and fail to repay the loans -

The major problem with pilot employment is the small number of pilot vacancies -
And the large number of qualified candidates -

Many UK pilots make a career abroad, in EU or the rest of the world -

Various reputed flight academies in UK are:

Question: Before a helicopter takes off, the rotors go from spinning fast to spinning really fast, is there a name for that transition?

Posted: 23 Nov 2014 09:39 PM PST

yeah. for all purposes, it's just a throttle up from "ground idle" to "flight gov" or whatever the manufacturer calls that.

all helicopters (even the RC ones that have more than 2ft rotor diameter) HAVE TO work within certain range of rotor RPM. it's simpler to control the power that way.

Question: Buying a car with lemon title?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 09:48 PM PST

buying a car with lemon title?

So i'm buying a 2014 Subary BRZ. It has 1,500 miles. Like new, for less than $22,000. My concern is that the car has a lemon title, according to the records, the car had a check engine line that kept coming back, it was bought back by dealer and declared as a "lemon", they replaced the car ECM and problem seems to be fixed. The dealer is a Subaru dealer, not just any crappy dealer. They told me that the car is in great condition, and I still have subaru warranty which is 3 years or 36,000 miles. And if something were to go bad, the warranty will cover. Do you guys think there's a catch in here? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Question: Is it worth it to perform deep maintenance on old car that I want to sell?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 08:38 PM PST

I have a 2006 Acura TL with 130,000 miles on it. I recently bought a newer RWD sports car, but originally kept the FWD Acura for the inevitable snow/ice that we see in Dallas for at least 2-3 days/year, and to haul stuff around in on weekends. However it has become apparent that it's not worth the monthly insurance money to keep the Acura, because if you don't drive a car like that everyday, it falls apart quickly. Plus it's a pain in our two-car driveway to have three cars.

Even before I bought the newer vehicle I knew of the following items: leaking front seals that leak about a quarter every 1000 miles, a power-steering pump that needs rebuilding for the third time and needs monthly topping, ODB2 codes warning of an oxygen sensor, and a clutch that is drivable but has seen better days. That's at least $3000 worth of work, on a car that KBB says is worth maybe $5000.

So if I trade the car in as part of an upgrade to my wife's current car, is it worth trying to get all of this work done?

I have wanted a Ford Raptor since it first came out in 2010, now I can just barely afford a nice used 2010 (50k or less miles). I go from saying "F it, I'm only going to live once lets do it", to "Its a lot of money, more gas than my Honda (double) and more insurance, not worth it". This truck was made for me though, I'm 50/50 right now. Talk me into or out of it!

Question: I had the dealer reg and insure the car I bought was this to expensive compared to getting it done my self?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 08:29 AM PST

Yes. They likely charged you a processing fee to do the registration, and you know for SURE they didn't shop around to find the lowest rate on insurance, so you may have saved yourself some hassle, but it cost you extra.

Question: My car is old. should insurance go down?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 07:30 AM PST

Yup, but it won't be a fortune. Older cars are worth less than newer ones, and a more expensive car equals more expensive insurance.

Keep in mind, however, that the car and its value are only one part of how your insurance is rated. And it's not the big part. The driver is the big factor, including all those little details like age, experience, previous accidents or tickets, how far you drive daily / annually, etc. There are also factors like where you live, credit history, and of course how much coverage you have.

Question: How long in the state texas do I have to sign over the title of a vehicle legally?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 06:38 AM PST

Immediately when ownership changes.

Do you mean to transfer the title into your name after purchase? That would be 30 days.

Not sure about Texas, but in some states you can transfer a title without registering a car.

Question: What type of insurance would you need if four cars got in a wreck at a for way stop?

Posted: 24 Nov 2014 06:16 AM PST

What type of insurance you would need depends on who had right of way over whom when the crash happened.

For any portion of the damage that can be blamed on another vehicle, either their liability coverage or your direct compensation / basic collision coverage would kick in.

If you're deemed responsible for the crash, your liability coverage will be used.

2000 Tacoma 3.4L V6 coil issues?

My Tacoma has been running rough for some time now after shifting gears and accelerating. As long as I get up to speed extremely slow it's not a problem but if I try to accelerate fast the truck shakes and jerks, sometimes accompanied by some backfiring. My check engine light came on and my scanner read "cylinder 2 misfire" I took it to the shop and they said it was a bad coil and a bad plug. It ran better after that but still showed same symptoms as before, which progressively got worse. Check engine light is on again and I'm getting misfires in cylinders 1 and 2 now. Should I just go ahead and replace all my coils, plugs, and wires?

So I recently got a 2012 car. On the hood and windshield is like a overspray? It feels hard & looks like overspray. Will a buff job or wax do the trick? BTW on the back of car there's these white round faded looking spots, I waxed it & I think it helped a bit.. I think over all the car might need a professinal detail job but wanted to hear what others have to say. Thanks Guys.

Question: Is it possible that windshield wipers can get out of sync?

Posted: 23 Nov 2014 05:30 PM PST

Normally, no. One most cars, the wipers are driven by a single motor with a system of levers that transfer the motion to both blades simultaneously. Such a system can break down and maybe one blade stops working, but I can't imagine a fault that would make them work out of sync.

Question: Do you think they should raise the driving, and drinking age limit?

Posted: 23 Nov 2014 02:54 AM PST

Personally, I think they should.
As so many accidents on the road involve either teens, or drunk driving, or sometimes even both.
I think it would be a smart thing if they would raise the age-limit on both laws.

I personally don't think a kid should be allowed to drive until they're at least 20.
16 yrs old, simply put, is way to young for a child to be behind the wheel.

As for the drinking law, I personally would say 25 would be better.
The reason being is that by then, a person has more experience; than at 21, and are therefore able to make more sound and responsible decisions.

Question: What does it mean to turn 9s in a vehicle?

Posted: 23 Nov 2014 01:43 AM PST

Don't do it unless you are trying to damage your vehicle. I was with an idiot friend who would jam his car in reverse and then jam on the brakes and the car was sliding all over hell. Probably left a "9" tire mark.

Question: Do pedestrians get the "walk" signal when you have a green left arrow?

Posted: 23 Nov 2014 01:23 AM PST

They usually do not, in fact I'm 99% sure they always do not.

BUT...

Because there is always a but, you have to look out for them anyway. Because if a vehicle hits a pedestrian, it's the vehicle's fault no matter what. Unless the pedestrian openly admits to causing the accident intentionally on the record (and they rarely do), it's the driver's fault every single time. There is, believe it or not, an actual reason for that.

Drivers carry a lot of responsibility. They have to make sure the vehicle they're driving is safe to operate, they have to pass several licensing tests to even be allowed to drive, and they're required to carry liability insurance in case they cause loss or damage to others or their property.

Pedestrians have no such requirements, in fact they have no legal responsibilities whatsoever. Pedestrians don't need a licence or insurance to walk across the road, there are no requirements or qualifications of any kind to be a pedestrian, therefore they're permitted and even expected to be complete morons. That's why the it's always the driver's fault when a pedestrian is hit by a car.

Question: Do race teams put the car number on tires?

Most professional race teams leave the number off the tires and simply place it on the side and/or front and back of the car. The tires typically display the brand name.

Question: What does yield mean when driving?

Posted: 22 Nov 2014 08:13 PM PST

Good answers so far, but I will add: in merging, it means you fit in without disturbing the others. You can't come to a stop on freeway on-ramps so instead you accelerate on the ramp enough to almost come up to the speed of the right lane and to get near the rear half car-length of whatever vehicle is there, then slow if necessary to slide in behind it.

If there is no traffic at all, yield signs at intersections indicate you should slow down (I was taught to 15 mph) and look both ways anyway.
