Question: 22 Mile Commute On A 50cc moped?

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 10:22 PM PDT

I'm looking at a Maddog ruckus on craigslist, it has a 50cc gy6 air cooled motor that has been big bored to 80cc and tops out at 50mph.

This scooter will be my daily driver until late fall when the car I ordered arrives. I'm worried about reliability of these scooters, do they leave riders stranded often? My commute is 22 miles (one way) would this type of scooter be prone to break downs on this long of a commute? Are they easy to work on?

Question: Good bumper sticker for "your lane ended, MERGE" type of idiots?

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 05:55 PM PDT

I live in a large metro area, & we have a lot of situations (freeway access roads especially), where there is a stop every mile. About a full 1/3 of a mile prior to that stop, huge "lane ends, merge left" signs appear.

Of course, (being in AZ - some of the dumbest drivers in the NATION) - roughly 25% of the drivers in the right lane pretend not to see the signs, and then when their lane is ending, ignore the fact that it is their responsibility to merge and yield to the traffic whose lane is continuing. Usually women, but it certain crosses genders sometimes.

Funny, cuz when 2 cars are side by side, and the car on the right has the legal responsibility to yield & merge, that person has TWO full options: 1) speed up. 2) slow down. But, strangely, some people will pretend that the horrid person is the one whose lane continued. (Even though that is a 100% backwards application of the concept of yielding and responsibility).

It's not just a once in a while thing. It's every day. Hard to believe there are people who will just cruise on through a "it's 100% my responsibility to slow down or speed up to merge" situation, and expect the person who's responsibility it is NOT, to do all of the thinking & braking FOR them. (!!??)

Have you seen any good bumper stickers that might help that person simmer down once they are behind you? Like, "What part of YOUR lane ends, merge left, don't you understand?"
If not, what would be a good saying for a customizable sticker.

Question: Who makes the R2 Stealth scooter?

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 04:27 PM PDT

The only "R2 Stealth scooter" I could find was a Cheap Chinese Crap stand-on electric scooter. You cannot find out who made it, it was made in China to be cheap. It is illegal to ride on the sidewalk. Depending on where you are it may or may not legal on the street, but is unsafe.

Should I buy a used 2007 Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon?

So for the past week i've been looking to for full size SUVs and I came across the Chevy Tahoe and GMC Yukon. I'm just wondering if they're reliable, if they're strong cars, and if it's okay if I purchase one with 92,000 miles?

Question: How to ask parents for a car?

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 09:17 PM PDT

Wow, nice price.

You should address all of the complaints that your parents might have.

1. You might get killed as an inexperienced driver

2. You might drink and drive because you are youthful and haven't experienced liquor as much as hardened drunks who are more able to wobble their cars down a lane in a zigzag fashion and blame the trees for hitting them.

3. You will be able to live a fuller life because it is easier to get to work and get to your girlfriend (soon your parents will hear the pitty pat of tiny feet running around their home, where your girlfriend will live with you.

Once you address their fears, they will say "hmm. . . I never thought of that" at which time you will realize that you shouldn't have mentioned any of that.

But, since the fears are now out in the open, you can begin to calm them down.

Assure them that you are not as young as you look. You are a responsible person who wants to buy a responsible car, not some muscle car that is flashy and fast.

Remind them that you are not the irresponsible youth that you were last week, and you've learned not to make the same mistakes twice. Your new mistakes will be innovative and original.

I'm currently 17.6 years old and I've thought about purchasing a new car, something really cheap. Would I get approved for first time buyer if I were to put like $5,000 down on a $20,000 car? Without the need for a co-signer?

Question: Driving permit question! (Minnesota)?

Driving permit question! (Minnesota)?

Okay so I got my driving permit back in April, but they forgot to give us something to sign so we got a letter in the mail saying we had to come to a different DMV than we went to before and get it signed before I got my actual permit. Well both my parents work full time jobs and it was hard to get there to get it signed. I finally got the damn thing signed a couple weeks ago (it's now August). I had the paper for awhile to use as my permit. But anyways, on my real permit now it says it was issued 08-2014. I'm taking my drivers test in October, since it would legally be 6 months, but would that be a problem when I get there? I have had my permit for 6 months it just says my permit was issued in August. Please help!

Question: Can i get car insurance in my mom's name without her present?

can i get car insurance in my mom's name without her present?

My car insurance is through the roof as i had an accident at fault last year. I'm 24 years old. I'd it possible to get insurance under my mother's babe if she lives :/ another state. I'm in Massachusetts and she's in Florida. She has agreed but I'm not very savvy on this subject. Does she have to be present? Can we do it over the phone or online? What companies allow it?

Question: Do I need to bring my mom to get my drivers license?

Do I need to bring my mom to get my drivers license?

I got my permit over the summer and my dad went with me and I always stay with my mom but my mom couldn't take me so since my dad took me, it says on my temps his address. When I get my drivers license after I pass the test, I'm going to bring something that proves I live at my mom's house, but how can I show proof that I live at the address if I don't pay bills and barely get anything in the mail except for school mail that always says "Guardian of (my name)? Do I have to bring my mom with me when I get my license or can I just bring my dad and show the DMV ppl the school mail I get, is that enough proof or no. I live in Ohio and im 18 btw

Question: Chrysler 200 emblems replaced to European equivalent Lancia Flavia?

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 04:16 AM PDT

When you register a vehicle, you're registering the VIN ( vehicle identification number ). It doesn't matter if you alter the badges, you just cannot alter the VIN.

EDIT: Don't worry about what the police see on your car. Lots of people remove all badges from their vehicles ( including myself on my previous vehicle when I had it repainted ). I was never pulled over because a cop did not know what kind of car I was driving.

Question: Why is it so hard to survive when a jet crashes into terrain/the ocean? Why doesn't the brace position work as often?

Posted: 30 Aug 2014 10:55 PM PDT

Sheer physics... The least amount of speed a plane will experience it terminal velocity.. So even at 100mph (whatever the speed may be to many variables to determine actual terminal velocity here), the plane would hit with such force that few living organisms would survive. The brace position usually only works in rough belly landings either on tarmac or water where the plane is near level before it impacts. In cases where the cabin has been depressurized you will usually pass out with in a minute or so rendering the brace position not practical (your not awake). If you manage to survive the impact the fire may kill you. The brace position is just a cute way of kissing your butt good bye..

Question: Who's at fault in an accident when hit from behind pulling a towing trailer?

Posted: 30 Aug 2014 09:58 PM PDT

Almost always the person coming from behind that runs into you is at fault. There are exceptions, like if you are backing up and someone runs into you, or if you have a long load sticking out behind you without a red flag or light on it., This could apply to the trailer if there were no lights.

Question: Is it normal that if I drive at night I get completely blinded by other cars' headlights?

Is it normal that if I drive at night I get completely blinded by other cars' headlights?

Whenever I attempt to drive at night I get blinded by cars on the opposite sides headlights. I wear both glasses and contacts, and I always have one or the other on. Is this normal? I am an inexperienced driver so I've only driven at night a few times but each time this always happens. I have to focus really hard and stare at the lines on the road, but even that is difficult sometimes.

Question: Illegal to go straight in a right turn lane?

It's not like you'll get a ticket after the fact. If a cop did see you go straight in a right turn only lane, yes, you would probably get a ticket. Just be more careful in the future, but don't worry about it now, it's over and done with.

Question: What should I upgrade to?

Posted: 30 Aug 2014 11:49 PM PDT

Right now I have a 09 ninja 650r which I like but I wish it was a little bit faster. I'm thinking about buying a used 600cc for a little more power and less weight, or buying a 250cc dual sport (maybe a little bigger like 400). Being able to ride around streets and off-road looks like a blast but I've never done off road riding before.

For the same price that I can buy a used 600cc the dual sport would be the same but brand new and insurance for it would be about 1/4 the cost for full coverage ($1800/yr vs ~$450/yr) for me, so it might be cheaper in the long run.

My only concern is how well they'll be able to handle highways. I don't do a lot of highway riding but sometimes it's the fastest way across town. I'm specifically looking at the yamaha WR250R.

I'm interested to hear people's opinions or suggestions.

Thanks

Question: How can someone mess up a motorcycle?

Posted: 30 Aug 2014 11:03 PM PDT

For a start you should not have continued to ride once you realised your bike had problems, it could end up very badly. I once rode my bike for 80 miles with no problems, then had a scraping noise from the front brake, ignoring it I rode another mile, applied the brake and went straight over the bars – someone had loosened the caliper to remove a tax disc, the caliper rotated and jammed the front wheel – fortunately I was going slowly at the time. Now if I suspect a problem I at least stop and investigate it.

Unfortunately there are any number of hoses, cables and exposed parts that a vandal could attack but I would be surprised if a motorcycle chain is not robust enough to take a stepping on – what might have happened though is that, by stepping on it, the output sprocket or shaft has been affected.

I hope you can identify the culprit, however I doubt they will get more than a talking to – vandalism is not high on the priorities these days.

Question: Just bought an 89 Ninja 600 and the bike will not stay running without the choke on.?

Sounds like a vacuum leak. Check the carb mounting boots/flanges....... Spray some carb cleaner around the intake tract connections. When the idle smooths out, you're in the neighborhood of your vacuum leak.

Can I ride a Honda CRF250R?

Ive had my heart set on a Honda CRF250R. I have no past experiences with dirt bikes, this would be my first one. I went to a Honda Dealer and the bike looked a lot bigger in person but when I got on it i wasn't flat footed on both sides but I was on my tippy toes. I could hold up the bike and a employee said it wouldn't be crazy for me to start with this bike. Im currently 15 5'6 and about 120 Pounds. When I sat on it kind of felt intimidating because of the size but also thought that I would get used to it soon.

Question: Best car to buy?

Posted: 30 Aug 2014 09:03 PM PDT

I think a used Honda crv(years '01-'06) is a great car thats easy to drive. The truck space is bigger than it looks and it can easily transport 5 passengers. You could also fold the rear seats down to make extra room for your cargo. Its also really reliable as the only problem in my 9 years of owning it was one headlight recently went out. They are pretty good on gas, I could get over 28 mpg highway. The car should be pretty good in LA traffic but I commute to O.C. which is pretty bad in the morning as well. This article:

http://autos.msn.com/research/vip/safety...

talks about its safety rating for a 2005 crv. I personally think its a great reliable car that could comfortably carry 5 people and cargo in the back.

Question: What is good for a first car?

Ford Crown Victoria or Mercury Marquis. Big, tough and reliable cars that put up with all the dumb things you'll put it through as a teen driver. My son had a Crown Vic for his first car, and it even ran on natural gas (cng), so it was super cheap to fill up. It survived everything he put it through quite well. These cars are also inexpensive to buy and inexpensive to insure compared to most other cars.

So I'm planning a trip from Connecticut to Louisiana. I've looked into Amtrak but it is very expensive. I have also looked at airway but my company doesn't do well on airplanes. And busses take a long time. Unless there is one that does not. Anyway. I know this was a shot in the dark but does anybody have any suggestions? Much appreciated. Thank you.

No, but the parts of the route still exists.

Rails and Sleepers (ties) are replaced as they wear out, but there have been several technological advancements which would cause the entire stretch to be replace, if it was still in use.
