Question: Why any type of aircraft has three legs? why not four? Posted: 23 Jan 2016 02:36 AM PST 4 wheels are better for stability when turning. Airplanes only turn when they're going onto the taxi ways or turning on the runway at low speeds. what is much more important for airplanes is weight. 3 wheels are lighter than 4. Every gram counts when you have to take an object in the air and that's why they use the least amount of material and the lightest possible material that is strong enough. With that being said, there's also little room to put a 4th wheel at the front, but if it was really deemed necessary, some guy would come up with an ingenious idea to put it there. |

Posted: 22 Jan 2016 06:13 PM PST moving lots of air is an intrinsically noisy process, but modern high bypass turbofans are very (ok, relatively) quiet. nothing like the shriek of a concorde or a b52. have you heard a 787 take off? i've read that when bombardier demonstrated their new c series jet to the press a lot of people missed the takeoff because they didn't hear it. |
