Question: What are the various cabin class codes? Posted: 19 Nov 2016 03:49 AM PST Like First Class - F/P Are there anymore? I think I saw a K class before somewhere too. |
Posted: 19 Nov 2016 02:55 AM PST On most multi engine prop planes the engines do turn in the same direction. On a few types, they turn in opposite directions, so that nether is considered the "critical engine". All propellers generate uneven thrust when the plane is in a nose up attitude. This is because on the side of the prop that is moving downward the blade has a higher angle of attack - it gets a bigger bite into the air. So that side of the prop develops more thrust. This effect is called "P-factor", and on single engine planes when they have a high power setting and a low airspeed it makes the plane turn, or yaw, away from the downward moving blade. If a twin engine plane loses an engine, the plane must maintain enough airflow over the rudder that the rudder can counteract the asymmetrical thrust. The lowest speed that the rudder can do this is called the minimum controllable airspeed. If you are below this speed with one operating engine at full power, that engine will cause you to loose control. It will roll you inverted pretty quickly. If both engines spin in the same direction, the one where the prop spins downward closest to fuselage becomes the critical engine. Because of P factor, The engine with the downward moving blade toward the outside it will produce more thrust to the outside, increasing the effect of asymmetrical thrust. If that engine is the only one running, the MCA is higher than if that engine were the one shut down. Planes with counter rotating engines have the downward moving blade on both props to the inside, so the MCA is the same with ether engine running, and the "P-factor" is as close to the centerline as possible. |
Question: How do you get your PPL-H? (Private Pilots License- Helicopter)? Posted: 18 Nov 2016 08:57 PM PST These would be typical - but the cost listed is only for the minimum required hours. No one completes training in the minimum - on the average, most people are 20 hours over the minimum, and that would be at $260 an hour for the R22, another $53 an hour for the instructor. http://www.flyhaa.com/helicopter/courses... |

Question: Why does a KC-135 not have a flight engineer while an E-3 does? Posted: 18 Nov 2016 06:36 PM PST Do NOT assume that the KC-135 and the E-3 are a same type of airplane - They are NOT -... First fact, (as Vincent mentioned) the two airplanes are from a different era - Boeing took the opportunity of designing the 707 based on the KC-135 - Notice that even the 727 has a cockpit that is a carbon copy of... the 707...! Now, look at the KC-135 (or any C-135) and compare to the early 707-120 - But the 707 had improved versions - 707.320 "Intercontinental" - Airlines with 707-320 stopped using navigators in the mid-1970's - Later versions of the 707-320 came with fan engines - The E-3 is NOT a version of the 707-120 (or KC-135) at all - The FAA issues a B-707/B-720 type rating to Air Force pilots of KC-135 or E-3 - |
