Question: Boeing 787 or Airbus a350? Posted: 05 Oct 2016 05:59 PM PDT Sick and tired of those numerous "which one you prefer" questions - What's the point...? Are you going to buy one or the other...? Boewing 797 or Airboos A360 are just equal to me - |
Question: What is the difference between cactus 1549 and the airbus a319? Posted: 05 Oct 2016 04:52 PM PDT Do not ever trust Hollywood about airplanes - I have seen 707 airplanes suddenly change into DC8 during takeoff or approach - Or the cockpit of the 707-DC8 being a cockpit of a CV-880...! I am an old fart and retired airline pilot - The movie (a spoof) "Airplane" gets me to tears laughing - |
Posted: 05 Oct 2016 04:46 PM PDT Yes, but the sonic boom cames suddenly. It is quiet different from a motorcycle with loud pipes that you can hear from far away, The rider passes and the sound reseeds. With the Concorde, (or any other supersonic aircraft) the sound is sudden, out of nowhere BOOM! and then an instant later a second BOOM! People would get startled. This is why the Concordes were not allowed to fly supersonic over populated areas. You say the boom would be once a day. That's because there were only 20 Concorde airframes built and only 14 were operational. Imagine if there were hundreds of them. Then you would hear dozens of booms a day. And it wasn't only a sonic boom that was an issue. Concord was powered by four Olympus turbojets with afterburners. Rolls Royce originally developed the Olympus engines for use on the RAF's Avro Vulcan strategic bomber. As with any military, engine making the engine quieter was not a concern. In the late 1990s I oversaw a project at John F. Kennedy Airport. When the Concorde took off, all conversations had to come to a stop. The noise even overpowered the pile driving hummer working just 100 feet away. (The Concorde was about 2 miles away.) In those days JFK saw four Concorde flights a day. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey had to spend a lot of money soundproofing schools and hospitals near the airport. |
