Question: UK Driving license - how much does it cost?

Posted: 08 Oct 2016 09:50 AM PDT

I just applied for a provisional driving licence and am now trying to find a driving instructor.

However, on the official government website is says that the average cost of 1 lesson is £24 and the average total cost of a driving licence is minimum just over £2.500!!!

Is that true? Do I need to spend that much money to learn to drive?
Please help!

Question: Is it illegal of what i am doing right now?

It is not okay. You are doing many things that are illegal.

The main thing is that when you buy a car, you mus"register" it, immediately, and pay a fee to the DMV.

If you wait too long, then the penalty for lateness can be thousands of dollars.

You do have until the end of October. The date shown on the registration or tags is when it would have been due if the vehicle was still owned by the person who owned it the last time that it got done. However, whenever ownership changes, it needs to be done again, immediately.

At this point, depending on how long you have owned the car, the penalties could be so high that it might be cheaper to just get a new one.

Question: How do I tell if car has salvage title?

There are tons of different variances of salvage.

Most cars are previous salvage or rebuilt.

The sellers are supposed to tell you in advance but they don't always do that.

Carfax type reports are useful in that regard.

In my state, the easiest way to tell is to look at the vin plate in the window or door. If its prior salvage, it should say rebuilt or something like that.

Prior salvage means ok to register & buy a tag.
Current salvage means its not ok to register & buy a tag without getting the state to come inspect it.

I was a dealer for a dozen years. The auctions would always mark the cars "salvage" but they were really prior salvage.

I once bought one and got an ACTUAL salvage title and I didn't have the first clue what to do with it. At the time, only licensed rebuilders could.

I told the auction and they gave me my check back & I gave the car back.
