Posted: 08 Oct 2016 02:47 PM PDT Condensation. When a plane manoeuvres hard in the right conditions it's wings etc cause a pressure drop on one side. When you lower the air pressure you get below the vapour saturation point and water vapour in the cloud condenses out into tiny droplets, basically a "Cloud". After the plane has moved on the pressure returns to normal and the cloud evaporates almost instantly. This article discusses it when explaining wing-tip vortices. |

Question: Do stealth bombers shine lights like normal aircraft at night, or in war? Posted: 08 Oct 2016 01:06 PM PDT They have normal navigation lights that are turned on over "friendly" territory. No use being so stealthy some one crashes into you. Over hostile territory they would go dark. They are designed to have a very small radar signature, painted black and the engine / exhaust designs minimise infrared and noise. They are not "invisible", like a Star Trek cloaking device, they are just difficult to detect, like a Ninja in a dark alley. |
