Question: Selected as an alternate for BNSF? Posted: 11 Jul 2014 03:48 PM PDT Selected as an alternate for BNSF? I applied for the position of Mechanical Shop Laborer for BNSF Railway and was selected for an interview. There were about 25 of us interviewing and they told us that they declined nearly 400 other applicants before selecting our group to interview. I interviewed on Tuesday and just got the email this evening that I was selected as an "Alternate". They don't really say what that means other than that I may be contacted with a conditional job offer if a position opens within the next 6 months. I am curious about how many of us would have been chosen as alternates though. If they were hiring for say, 5 positions, would they pick the 5 they wanted and tell the rest of us that we are all alternates? Or are there only a few alternates selected and the rest are told sorry but no thanks? |
Question: If you buy a train ticket from Virgin, do you have to board a virgin train? Posted: 11 Jul 2014 01:32 PM PDT It depends on the ticket you buy. I presume you have bought your ticket through the Virgin Trains website which is simply a ticket agency for all rail tickets. If you have purchased an advance ticket then you will have been given a note of all reservations including the train details (station and departure / arrival time(s) and you MUST travel on the specified trains else your ticket will be invalid and you will be charged a penalty fare. If you have simply booked a ticket then you will be able to use any train subject to the restrictions that apply. For example if I travel to the Birmingham area I book my ticket on the Virgin website but the train I join at Liverpool South Parkway is operated by London Midland Trains and it takes me directly to Birmingham. i would suggest that if you have any doubts re tickets visit your local station and check further with the staff on duty in the ticket office. |
Question: What happens if i miss my train? Posted: 11 Jul 2014 11:51 AM PDT The fast Thalys trains, which take 1 hour 22 minutes between Paris and Brussels, vary in frequency throughout the day, often there's one (or even two) per hour, sometimes there's a two-hour gap in the timetable. However, tickets are sold for a specific seat on a specific train. If you miss your train, then the ticket's no use and you have to buy a new (and very expensive) one - SO MAKE SURE YOU GET TO THE STATION IN GOOD TIME. And yes, they usually do run on time; |
