Posted: 03 Sep 2015 07:09 AM PDT Without knowing how he connected the cables, it's impossible to tell if he knew what he was doing. If you haven't noticed anything different since that event, everything is fine. A mechanic would have nothing to look at, but will still charge you for the minimum hour of shop time. ![]() |

Question: Need advice on how to hook up a car stereo system? Posted: 02 Sep 2015 06:16 PM PDT First of all, forget about the 4" speakers. The only reason that the factory system used 4" speakers in that location is because the middle speakers in the factory-amplified Camaro and Firebird are just for bass, so the small speakers in the rear just have the function of getting high frequencies into the rear. If you're replacing the middle speakers with full-range 6-1/2" speakers, then the 4" speakers in the hatch area have no real function; installing new ones will do more harm than good. Just disconnect the stock speakers and don't put anything else there. As for your head unit's single pre-amp output, your amplifier has the ability to run all four channels of output from just the front inputs. Run a set of RCA cables from the head unit and connect them to the "front" inputs on the amplifier, and make sure the 2CH/4Ch switch on the amplifier is set in the 2CH position. You won't have the ability to fade the audio from front to rear using the head unit controls; that's normal when you're using a single pre-out head unit with a 4-channel amp. Remember that you'll need to bypass the factory Monsoon amplifier in your Camaro--don't just connect the amplifier outputs to the speaker wires behind the head unit, or the factory amp will still be driving your speakers, not the new amp. The factory amp is located near the spare tire on the right rear side of the hatch. ![]() |

Question: What orion amplifier would I need to power two of these subs? Posted: 02 Sep 2015 04:51 PM PDT You will need a mono amp that could produce 4000 watts RMS at a 1 ohm load. The DC Audio 3.5k would be a good choice for that kind of power. With that kind of power, you're going to need to do some serious electrical upgrades. ![]() |
