For many years the Sportster was Harley's 'entry level' bike. But the industry is changing. The number of new riders has been down for a while now so many manufacturers are making good smallish bikes for new riders to learn to ride on. Harley's Street 500 and Street 750 are in this category.<p>The only real problem with the Street 750 is that it's too new. It's only been out for about a year. I would strongly recommend against learning to ride on a shiny new bike because you're likely to be very hard on your first bike.</p><p>However there is another motorcycle that has almost the same specs as the Street 750--750cc, water cooled, v-twin, single-crankpin design, etc., but has been around since the 1980s. The Honda Shadow! Also it's cheaper.
