as my grandmother (of all people) said to me when I first got my licence 30 yrs ago "you have to drive for the other idiots on the road"

With a mass exodus, it's far more efficient, and safer, if everybody can drive out forward, rather than back out, then drive forward.<p>When I was commuting by train, I'd back into my parking spot for the same reason.
