Question: After buying a car off of Craigslist what's the first thing I do? Posted: 03 Sep 2015 09:06 AM PDT Yes, you certainly are new to this. You don't even know Rule Number One of car buying, or you wouldn't even be asking this question. Rule Number One, since you didn't know, is this: Never buy a car off Craigslist.com. That place is absolutely infested with fraud artists, liars, losers and general lowlife types. No kidding, not even exaggerating, online classifieds are the best way to get screwed when buying a vehicle. Those sites have absolutely no verification process for people who list with them, which is why their listings can't be trusted. You've been warned. Don't do it. ![]() |
Posted: 03 Sep 2015 07:47 AM PDT The only thing you can do is be totally honest. You owe your friend (or whoever) at least that much, and the honest answer is a perfectly reasonable one. Just tell them exactly what you told us. If it helps, say you got some information from someone with a vast professional education in auto insurance (yes I mean myself), and that's why you're having second thoughts. You found out that if an accident happens while someone else is driving your vehicle, it's your accident to deal with. Because the owner, not the driver, is liable (legally responsible) for their vehicle and any loss or damage it causes. If you let someone drive your vehicle and they crash it, they didn't just have an accident. You did. You own the vehicle, so all the damage bills and lawsuits are your responsibility. You can look that up if you want, even ask your (or any) insurance broker if it's true. Tell your buddy that you didn't know that until today, and it made you kind of nervous when you found out. Because while you want to be nice, you just can't afford to take that kind of chance. Not on your salary, and your insurance costs are already pretty high. Honesty is always the best way to go, because it doesn't require an elaborate cover story or a handful of excuses. And if this friend doesn't accept your honesty, to hell with them. ![]() |
Posted: 03 Sep 2015 07:38 AM PDT No, it won't. The fact that you're a complete moron, however, will pretty much crush your chances. Suspended means you're not allowed to drive at all. Anywhere. For any reason. The post office isn't as dumb as you are, so they're not going to hire a driver who is completely disqualified to operate a motor vehicle. It's this new thing called the law. ![]() |
Question: Driver's Test Papers Lost? Posted: 03 Sep 2015 07:03 AM PDT You go to whoever issues the paperwork, tell them you lost your original(s), and ask for a replacement copy. There is usually a form to fill out and a fee to pay, just so you know. If the law in your mystery location (licensing regulations are jurisdictional legislation, not international law, and you didn't say where you live) require you to provide proof of education and driving practice, hell yes you still need it. ![]() |
Question: Can I get my car towed without title? Posted: 03 Sep 2015 06:38 AM PDT When your vehicle isn't registered, having it towed is the only legal way to get it anywhere. So yes it can be done. Take a look around for your title one more time. If you really truly can't find it, you need to go to whoever issues title documents in your mystery location (DMV office, court house, royal palace, etc) and ask them for a duplicate. They get about 20 lost document replacement requests per day (minimum), so they'll tell you exactly what you need to do. It's one of the easiest procedures in the book, so get it done. There are excuses for not having valid documents for your vehicle, but none of them are accepted anywhere. ![]() |
