Question: When is the right time to get in the left lane in order to make a left turn? Posted: 09 Dec 2015 10:07 AM PST The "left lane is for faster traffic" rule only applies on interstate highways and (maybe) some other major highways. Typically these highways only have exits on the right, there are no turns or even stop lights. The only exception to this is in the rare cases of a left-hand exit, where you can get over as soon as it is safe to do so and exit the highway. On multi-lane roads, you can get into the left lane to make a left turn whenever you want. The sooner the better too, you don't want to fight across lanes of traffic to make a turn. That would be more disruptive than driving slow. |
