Will agree with Patrick- If just a trail bike the TTR 125 (or 150) is a better choice as 2T's are being banned from a lot of riding areas.
If she thinks she wants to race the KX 85 is a nice little machine as is the YZ 85.

I love both 2T and 4T bikes but until one can ride the bigger 4T's they aren't really that much fun to race.

Question: Why do some motorcycles have the exhaust on the side and others at the middle?

"What determines the exhaust location? "

The layout of the engine and number of the cylinders.

Singles, parallel twins and inline fours will usually have the exhausts exiting at the front of the cylinder block.
A longitudinal V-twin will usually have the rear exhaust exiting at the rear right of the back cylinder block and the front exhaust exiting at the front right of the front cylinder block.
Flat twins and transverse V-twins will usually have the exhausts exiting at the front of each cylinder block.
A flat four or flat six will usuually have the exhausts exiting underneath the cylinder block.

I say "usually" in each case, because there are always variations with every engine type.
