I just got my first car and I am learning how to change the oil and coolant on it. I called my local Firestone and CarQuest to gather information on how to change the coolant. Well, they just basically told me to go to a store buy a 50/50 mixture and pour it in. Well, I told them I was not sure what coolant was already in the car.

Can I really just go buy coolant and put it in my car with the existing coolant. And I bought the car from my grandparents and they used to go to a car dealership to get coolant in it. I called the dealer and it was shut down.

Can anyone enlighten me on this because I know it is going to be needed done soon.
