Question: Whose fault was it in my car wreck? Posted: 16 Aug 2015 08:05 AM PDT I was turning left out of a parking lot and the cars to the left of were stopped to let me go. Now, a turning late started after the parking lot and someone was going around some cars, on to on-coming traffic, to get in the turning lane. He crossed a double yellow line to get to it and i could not see him when I was turning. As i turned he hit me in the front before i could make the turn all the way. I didn't even see him when I was turning until I got hit. Where he hit me at, the lane started to come out at an angle and so the police said technically I was in his lane... but that has to be BS because his wheels were still a little over the solid yellow line. The policeman acted like he didn't want to give the report. He didn't put time in it or anything. But there was a witness than the police reported and she said the way he was driving, he should have his license suspended because he flew around her to get into on coming traffic so he could get into a turning lane, before it opened up into one. I drew out a diagram of how it happened and where it happened using google maps. Here it is.. https://drive.google.com/open?id=0Bz2uKV... So who is at fault and what do you think insurance will do? I only have liability, not full coverage. |

Posted: 16 Aug 2015 04:48 AM PDT You won't be arrested, ignore those answers. Driving without a valid licence is a traffic offence in Ohio, not a crime. But you'll still have to face the penalties and fallout. The penalties range from a few hundred in fines to a few thousand, plus a possible suspension of driving privileges for up to three years. It doesn't matter whose vehicle you were driving. The owner also won't be happy with you, because they'll suddenly have to pay for the towing and impound lot charges. The cops can't leave an abandoned vehicle sitting on the road (that's not safe), and they can't let you drive away in it (that's really not safe), so towing is the only option. Once a vehicle is towed, it can't be released until the owner shows up, provides proof of valid licence / insurance / registration, and pays all the towing & impound fees. |
