in value" of your Volvo is. Unfortunately you may owe more than the car is worth. Yes, as part of the trade in process you pay off the loan. If the car is not worth that much then you have to come up with some additional funds.<p>Be wary of rolling that negative equity into a new loan. Then you just even more underwater on the next car. Also you need to understand there is a difference between Trade in Value and Retail Value. This is how the dealership makes money. They buy your old car for cheap and they sell you a new one at a premium. So to get a chevy that is comparable to your current Volvo is going to cost you some money. It will probably cost you more than a few $700 repairs.</p><p>So you have already spent lots of money repairing the Volvo. Maybe you have fixed most of the problems or maybe you need a few more repairs.
