Question: Can I transfer my car lease to the cosigner? Posted: 17 Aug 2015 09:08 PM PDT If it is a traditional lease, the dealer has absolutely no say in the matter and will not be of any help. They may tell you who to call, but that's about it. When you lease a car at a branded car dealer (Ford, for example), the lease company actually buys the car just like if you financed it. They pay the dealer and then rent the car back to you. All terms are actually set by the lessor and generally the dealer has little, if anything, to do with it. After your lease terms are up, you can either buy the car for the residual value, or turn it in. When you turn it in, they are actually selling the car back to the dealer, same as if you traded it in for another car. Basically, calling the dealer will be a futile effort and a complete waste of time. Call the people that actually send the payment to. They are the only ones that can help you. It may be able to be done. However, it is solely their decision. Explain your situation and make your case. That is about all you can do. If you "leased" a used car from a "buy-here-pay-here" lot, then they are who you need to talk with. However, this is unlikely as you're talking about credit and most of those couldn't care less about that.... |
