Question: A high quality 12V DC water pump for camping? Posted: 22 Oct 2015 12:56 AM PDT Hi, I'm looking for a quality low profile water pump to use for camping. Not too worried about price. I'm not worried about the amperage drawn. What I want to use it for: Water supplies would be anything freshwater (definitely NO SALT). I'd likely be using a container of city water taken from home or river water. Note I will be buying an accompanying intake filter and using mesh around the inlet pipe start. Was looking at the Shurflo Blaster pump but it is expensive and marine grade which is overkill. Thanks very much! |

Question: What is the possibility of running a yacht on solar panels? Posted: 21 Oct 2015 08:01 AM PDT I've built, fixed, designed, and sailed yachts for forty years. As the others said...run the electronics and lights and ( maybe) the refrigeration on a sailboat?Yeah, sure if you are down here in the Caribbean. In Seattle in the winter? No. To run the motor on a motor yacht? MYs have diesel engine or engines in the 100 to 500 hp range. Depends on how big, how fast you want to go, how much other stuff is aboard...... a HP is 750 watts you need , at the low end, 75,000 watts. A two by three foot solar panel, at high noon in the Caribbean in July puts out about forty watts. Do. The. Math. Yes you can build an extremely ultra light motor boat that has limited range and capabilities, but it's not a motor yacht any more than the human powered Gossamer Albatross is a twin engine Cessna |
