Basic instructions for a basic boat - knowing the boat make model engine type would help.

Add the correct amount of Stabil Marine to the fuel tanks
Fill the fuel tanks full
Warm up the engine
Spray engine fogging oil into the intake of the carb until it stalls
Change the oil,
Drain the water out of the engine.
Bump the starter to clear the water pump
Remove the bilge drain
Wash and wax the boat

Maybe survival suits. You can t think straight if you re cold and wet, and besides, it s unpleasant.<br/>Common spares for the engine, Maybe a spare engine, like a little outboard you see people with. At least some way to get to safety, or stay safe and warm and dry, if the engine fails. Maybe your game plan involves calling for help on the VHF and getting a tow. That s OK, too, if there s always people around to call close enough to help before things get worse.<br/>Emergency plugs to block failed stopcocks and drains. At least, my surveyor said I should have some and I assume he s seen or read of stopcocks failing.<br/>Waterproof VHF you can clip to your PFD. If you re out alone and the boat flips, you can call for help.<br/>Run through some scenarios in your head or on paper and figure out what you d do and what you d need. Try to eliminate ones that end with "you die". Like the weather turns nasty, or you run out of fuel, or the engine fails, or someone falls overboard, or you run aground, or you hit debris and put a hole in the boat, or someone has a medical emergency etc. etc., then throw in darkness and bad weather. E.g. how would you find and rescue someone fallen overboard at night in bad weather - maybe you need a lifesling, or a harness, or reflective tape on all PFDs and a good flashlight or two. Ideally you d actually practice emergency procedures - throw a kid overboard and tell the others to rescue them, and make sure if you re the one to fall in they can get you instead of staring at the
