Posted: 22 Oct 2015 09:31 PM PDT Full disclosure - I drive a minivan, and in my man-van I have a high output sound system with a loud and low subwoofer. I CAN piss off all my neighbors if i want to, but generally I choose not to. I USUALLY turn it down a little bit when I'm stopped, or in a residential area. That being said -- in a lot of cases, loud bass IS more about attention than anything. For generally young, generally poor people loud stereos are a lot like loud Harley's for generally old, comparatively wealthy people. |

Question: Installing aux jack in 2002 factory? Posted: 22 Oct 2015 06:02 PM PDT I want to put an auxiliary input jack into my car. There is no tape player so I can't use one of those cassette-to-aux converters. It doesn't have a CD changer, so I can't use an input box. I think I've figured it out, but I need to make sure it won't backfire and destroy the head unit or something. I'm thinking I'll take apart some old computer speakers, disconnect the actual speakers and keep the electronics, input, power button and volume control. Obviously I'll need to wire it to the car's electrical system or use an inverter. If I can find one that is close enough to the cigarette lighter's power, I'll connect it to that. I have no idea how to combine this setup with the head unit, so they will be independent. What I'm worried about is possible interference. Will I need to install diodes or something to prevent one system from messing up the other? What I mean is, the signal from the new aux jack will also run back to the head unit (unless I add separate speakers). As long as I don't have them both on at the same time, will that be ok? |
