I started stealing my mom's car at 15 (for nightly joy rides) and eventually, she allowed me to take her car to work & back, even though I didn't have my license/permit. By the time I hit 16 1/2 and got my permit, I was extremely comfortable driving (obviously). I know I am not a good example as to what you're looking for, just wanted to explain how it's different for everyone. My son got his permit as soon as he could & it took us a few weeks of practicing before he became comfortable driving. It's a lot harder to learn how to drive today than it was for me 40 years ago.... there's more cars on the road, a ton more congested traffic & everyone is much more rude & impatient behind the wheel. so give yourself a break, get plenty of practice. we started in a empty mall parking lot & moved up to empty roads/industrial parks where we knew nobody would be driving on the weekends & worked to regular streets/highways & night driving last. good luck -
