Posted: 27 Mar 2015 08:35 PM PDT Maybe none. Maybe a lost girlfriend could've done it. You get that and then have to turn around and go to work right after... people don't think clearly. God forbid the boss would let him take time out in this case. Probably not, but that's the world we live in. I'm not saying that would have justified what he did. He is a scoundrel for putting his emotions above that of hundreds of people. |
Posted: 27 Mar 2015 05:58 PM PDT The accident you mention at Bagram, Afghanistan was a cargo 747 - The problem was that the payload shifted towards the tail, airplane got out of CG limits - Passenger airplanes (and baggage weight, plus the fuel they carry) are not as critical - Some smaller passenger airplanes are more limited by weight and CG limits - Actually most airplanes can handle "overweight" quite well - I once had an incident flying a cargo airplane - overweight situation . For your information, airlines use "average weights" for passengers - My experience showed me that the airlines constantly underestimate the payload on board - The first officer probably took 20 minutes to compute payload to be 31,709 kilos - It worked for most of my career as pilot - I am still alive...! |
Question: Do the airplane cockpit windows open on the sides? Posted: 27 Mar 2015 05:20 PM PDT In some airplanes, cockpit windows do slide open - On B-707, 727, 737, they slide open - Also on DC-8 and DC-9 (MD-80) - In some others, NO - As an example, no windows can get open in cockpit in a B-747 - There is an escape hatch on top of the cockpit ceiling in the B-747 - |
