| Question: Is it legal for autistic kids to pilot helicopters? Posted: 17 Mar 2015 12:15 AM PDT if you're able to do that, then you've (they've) been ill-diagnosed. i know several sociopaths that are flying helicopters. none of them is autistic, though. maybe your (their) social awkwardness accounts for poor uprising and being brats rather than being impaired on physically provable level. |

| Question: Can a commercial pilot become an astronaut? Posted: 16 Mar 2015 09:35 PM PDT No, not unless he/she had an advanced degree or skill set that was relevant to the mission. You can't fly a spacecraft for NASA unless you've had training in very high speed, very high altitude aircraft, and the military is the only practical place to get that experience. Mission and payload specialists however are often civilians, and since their job isn't to actually fly the spacecraft, they might not have any flying experience at all. For example, mission number STS-61-B was a Space Shuttle mission for launching commercial communications satellites in orbit. The lead Mission Specialist (Rodolfo Neri Vela) had two undergraduate engineering degrees, a masters degree in telecom systems, and a Ph.D in electromagnetic radiation. Anyone with those kinds of qualifications would have no interest or need to become a commercial pilot in the first place. Most of us lowly commercial pilots haven't the smarts or the discipline to become astronauts. People who become astronauts are exceptionally talented, exceptionally educated, and exceptionally lucky. They are overachievers, whereas most commercial pilots are not. My uncle knew the late astronaut Dick Scobee in high school, he had come over to my grandparents a few times (all before I was born). After they both graduated in 1957, Chris never saw Dick Scobee again. |
