Posted: 22 Sep 2016 07:05 AM PDT Yes, it's possible, but hardly ideal. You'll need an inverter. The head unit should have a wire for switching on external amp; use that to switch the inverter on with a relay. Don't let it run all the time - use a switch. |

Question: Can I use the original wire harness that came with my car for a new radio? Posted: 21 Sep 2016 09:53 PM PDT The original wiring and connectors from the stock radio can stay as they were, and adapters used on the original connectors to fit the new unit. You can keep the stock radio and still get an aux port by getting an FM modulator installed. |
Posted: 21 Sep 2016 08:08 PM PDT (A) You are referencing peak power values which are more or less meaningless because peak power is measured in microseconds. From now on you should pay attention to the average continuous power expressed in WATTS RMS. Those subs are rated 300 watts rms apiece. That doesn't sound so impressive now, does it? (B) There is an international electronics testing standard called CEA 2006 (http://knowledge.sonicelectronix.com/car-audio-and-video/car-amplifiers/cea-2006-compliant-amplifiers/) Many manufacturers such as BOSS do not adhere to these standards and their equipment rarely lives up to their advertised specifications. Even though they rate it at 600w rms per channel @ 2 ohms the AR1600.2 cannot possibly produce more than 350 watts per channel or it will blow the fuses. (a 25 amp fuse x 13.8 volts typical car voltage = 345 watts) (C) You are comparing a 2 channel amp (AR1600.2) to a 4 channel amp (ZRX.1016.4). While Hifonics is a CEA 2006 compliant manufacturer, that amp is rated 250w rms per channel @ 2 ohms and 125w rms @ 4 ohms. If you bridge two channels together it can produce 500w rms @ 4 ohms only. This may or may not be a good match for those Infinity subs depending on their impedance. (D) Since you failed to mention what the impedance (ohms) per voice coil of those subs is we can't determine their total impedance. A model number would have been helpful so we could check the specs that are obviously meaningless to you at this point. Therefore we cannot tell you if either of those amps is a good match or not. (E) Unless you want to amplify your door speakers (recommended) , a monoblock (1 channel) amplifier is all you need. Your ears cannot detect a stereo signal at the low frequencies where subs play, so you don't need two or more channels to run subs with. One channel is fully adequate. (F) The JBL MS-A5001 amplifier would be an excellent choice because it puts out at least 500w rms at 2 ohms or 4 ohms so would work well with either version of those speakers. |
