Question: Can commercial airplanes fly backwards? Posted: 26 Sep 2016 03:35 PM PDT Two things wrong here, Skippy. First... the word is AERONAUTICS. Spell it properly, or you'll get points off for spelling. SECOND... ANY airplane that is used in commercial service is a commercial airplane. Commercial airplanes are NOT just big passenger jets but little Piper Cubs, Cessnas and helicopters too. They all CAN be used in commercial service. Last... SOME "commercial airplanes" like Helicopters, CAN fly backwards. Fixed wing airplanes must fly forward because they need air moving over their wings to provide the lift that gets them off the ground, BUT when flown at slow speeds into a strong head wind, they can APPEAR to fly backwards when seen from the ground. They are still flying forwards, but the wind is pushing them back faster than their forward speed through the air. So YES... "Commercial" airplanes CAN fly backwards, but it takes a special type of airplane, or special circumstances to make it happen. ![]() |
Question: Emirates after air india? Posted: 26 Sep 2016 11:30 AM PDT Yup, Skipper is right. You could get to be the B747 Fleet Captain at Air India, but, if you then went to Emirates, you would be right back to the bottom of their Seniority List, flying as a Second Officer on their least desirable routes. That is the way it works. You would certainly have a good chance of being hired by Emirates, based on your experience, but the question would be ''hired as what'', it certainly would not be as what you would want to be! ![]() |
Question: How much would it cost to wet lease an aircraft? Posted: 26 Sep 2016 10:00 AM PDT Sorry, it is far too broad a question to answer accurately. Airlines are normally quite approachable, why not simply ring up your local commuter airline, ask for their Public relations Department and tell them what you want to know and why. They will probably be happy to help you out ![]() |
Question: Piloting questions from someone looking into aviation? Posted: 26 Sep 2016 09:37 AM PDT I'm just starting to look into getting a pilots license, but I'm not sure what to look at. I'm thinking id like to try and go for a private license, as my ideal end goal would be to have a smallish plane and have a private flight business of my own. would this be the right type of license to go for? I am curious as to what would be the best way to go about this. I am a 21 year old female who is working full time to support myself, so i am trying to be as smart as possible in regards to time and money. Also, I know there are probably some set prerequisites to even qualifying to piloting, both medically and intelligence-wise. is there anyway i can be sure that i qualify in the first place before I get too far invested? Thanks for your answers, and any type of advice you might have regarding this at all would be appreciated. I don't know anyone personally in the field, and I want to more information from real people who love aviation rather than just a school that might just be interested in my money.
