Question: How many watts should my dads car need? Posted: 24 Sep 2016 07:48 PM PDT Almost all car stereo "head units" (radio/cd players) are 22 watts rms per channel or less. In a modern sedan with good soundproofing, that's usually good enough with a decent set of speakers, but for a 60's car there's a lot more road noise and wind noise so you may want more power to overcome that at highway speeds. While the standard route would be to add a power amplifier, I'd recommend the relatively new Sony MEX-XB100BT head unit that is 40w rms per channel. It's a single-DIN unit so should fit the radio console of the Camaro and it has all the features you could want including front panel Aux and USB charger, plus bluetooth, support for Sirius radio, iPhones & other smart phones, and it reads pretty much all recorded formats ( MP3/WMA/AAC/WAV/FLAC) from a phone or burned onto a CD. The best thing is that with twice the power of a standard stereo you won't need a separate amplifier. I installed one in my '68 Olds 442 convertible and it really drives my Polk DB's with clear, distortion free music up to as loud as anyone can stand. It also has a sub-out connection should you want to add a powered subwoofer but if you run Polk DB seriesspeakers from it you probably won't need one. The unit retails for about $230 and it's well worth it in my opinion. |
Question: Why do some people wear sunglasses and shades in grocery stores? Posted: 24 Sep 2016 04:32 PM PDT Several reasons: Migraine headaches are made worse by bright lights and grocery stores all have very bright lighting so a person with a migraine will wear sunglasses everywhere. They are sensitive to light for various reasons including drug side effects, those drops that an eye doctor uses to make the pupils big, excessive exposure to reflected glare from snow, water or flying, eyes that are tired from overdoing fine detailed work or allergies. Sunglasses are also a universal sign of a person who is blind or has serious visual impairment. If the person also has a white cane or a service dog then they could be blind. Some blind people don't see darkness, they have grey or white blindness and bright lights can be painful to the eyes. And it could be for something else. Whatever the reason if someone is wearing sunglasses indoors it's none of my business (or your business) so I leave them alone. |
