If your friend didn't put anything into his will, you have no rights to this car. However, I think it unlikely that the son will accuse you of stealing it. What would he get out of doing that?

My guess is that he'll ask you to buy it from the estate. You should be prepared to do that if you want to keep it.

Renault in France recently and drove it for a couple of months.<br/>When it started to rain the windshield wipers went on automatically, the radio volume went down when you crossed your lane lines (it differentiated between lane changes and drifting out of the lane), when the speed limit changed the new speed limit was displayed on the dash and windshield. The windshield display told you, in seconds, how far ahead of you the car in front of you was and gave you a green light if it was a safe distance, the car automatically locked itself when you walked away from it and automatically unlocked itself when you approach the car (the mirrors folded in and out simultaneously). It wasn't actually a key it was just a little cube that had to be anywhere in the car in order for it to operate. When you put the car in park the emergency break automatically engaged and then automatically went off when you shifted into drive. The GPS was quite incredible; for example, alternative routes were offered for traffic issues, construction, etc. When you were going to make a change in direction the screen would split and show you the actual terrain and where you should be going.
