| Question: Cost of maintaining a train for 1,000 miles? Posted: 18 Sep 2016 07:57 PM PDT You are looking for a specific number of something that is extremely variable. Cost of gas?? For a electric train not much For a diesel train not much. Unless you want that used by service vehicle like the catering delivery truck. Maybe the Amtrak Police car. Does that count as part of cost to operate train? Cost of food. Per mile?? per passenger?? Do you want the purchase cost price or sale price? Do you want the cost of food that is included in some tickets? Do you want the cost of staff to prepare and serve it? The amount of food waste(discarded unsold). Explore here in the "Library" For the simple answer information not published online. FRA.CFO@dot.gov FRAPA@dot.gov https://www.fra.dot.gov/Page/P0387 https://www.amtrak.com/travel-green-with... In FY 2015, Amtrak earned approximately $3.2 billion in revenue and incurred approximately $4.3 billion in expense Seventy-two percent of the miles traveled by Amtrak trains are on tracks owned by other railroads. Known as "host railroads," they range from large publicly traded companies based in the U.S. or Canada, tostate and local government agencies and small businesses. Amtrak pays these host railroads for use of their track and other resources needed to operate Amtrak trains, with incentives for on-time performance. Price to use track just different place to place. Section 209 of the Passenger Rail Investment and Improvement Act (PRIIA) required Amtrak and its state partners to jointly develop a cost-sharing methodology to equitably charge states for state-supported intercity passenger rail service. Amtrak operates 15 long-distance trains on a national network of routes ranging in length from 764 to 2,438 miles. http://media.amtrak.com/media-contacts-requests/ |
