| Posted: 18 Sep 2016 12:17 AM PDT First, you can't shrink an enlarged hole; the only way to repair it fully so that it is as good as new is to replace the bumper, which costs more than $300. If they are asking for only $300, then they are planning to do some sort of patching which isn't as good, and you are getting a great deal. Second, a police report isn't "against" someone. A police report is simply a statement of the facts, that a car accident happened, who the drivers were, what the date was, where it happened, etc. Regardless of what the police do or do not do, he can sue you, in court, although it might not get to trial. Your insurance company might decide to just pay him and raise your payment. Or to cancel your insurance. |

| Posted: 17 Sep 2016 09:52 PM PDT Check where you live, different rules for different places. But usually you are only legally required to carry liability, that pays for other peoples damage or injuries that you may cause. If you fully own the car, then that's all you need. If you have borrowed money with the car as security, then the lender will require you to fully insure the car. But that's a civil contract matter, not something the cops are going to care about. If the car is cheap enough then liability only may be wise. If you do write the car off, the value may be so low there is only a small payout. The money you saved on the policy is probably more. Be aware that the CAR is insured. Not the driver. If you buy a new car, you need to get your insurance policy swapped from your old car, to your new(er) one. |
