Question: Can I cancel or close a car insurance claim that I started? Posted: 13 Nov 2014 09:13 AM PST Recently some jerk decided to hit my car and not leave insurance info or anything. I do not have uninsured motorists coverage but my insurance will cover it under comp and collision with a $500 deductible. So I decided to call the insurance and file a claim. I have not received checks or any money whatsoever. Is there any way I can just close the claim and do the repair out of pocket? I don't need my rates to go up, I'm 20. |
Posted: 13 Nov 2014 08:56 AM PST the insurance company for the other car is correct - they aren't liable for damage caused by a driver who wasn't on the policy. YOUR insurance company will cover everything IF you have uninsured motorist coverage. If you didn't choose that coverage when you picked your insurance then your insurance company isn't required to help you - in which case your only hope is to try to find the driver and sue him directly which is probably not going to get you paid. |
Question: My NYS driver license expires a year ago but im overseas? Posted: 13 Nov 2014 07:14 AM PST You can't. You're not in New York, you're not even in North America. And your licence isn't expiring soon, it already expired over a year ago. No you can't get a vision exam from a Saudi Arabian (or whatever) eye doctor and send it to the DMV at home, it has to be done in New York State. That's the rule. Only you're not in New York State, you're way over there. You're not going to be fined for anything, nor will you be suspended. Fines are given out for driving (key word, driving) with an expired licence. And since you're not able to drive in New York at the moment, you have nothing to worry about. |
