Question: Can a railroad conductor bring a guess along on a job/trip? Posted: 09 Nov 2014 03:27 PM PST It depends on the railroad. Under some circumstances, some companies will permit cab rides. It is becoming more and more rare though. |
Posted: 09 Nov 2014 01:59 PM PST I don't think they'd know they hit a dog until they stop at next place, and see some squishy red stuff on bottom of their wheels. Seriously speaking, a long train would run over a dog like it'd run over a stick, without missing a beat, and they wouldn't really know it happened, because the train is so heavy, it'd crunch thru the dog effortlessly. So someone would have to come along, walking the tracks to find the remainder of the dogs body to know it happened. So that's why a railroad would NOT have records of hitting dogs on the tracks. Not important enough. |
Question: Does anyone know what the oldest rolling stock on mainline service is? Posted: 09 Nov 2014 12:19 PM PST In the U.K. it is the Class 43 Inter City 125 trains built between 1976 and 1982 although they received new engines a few years ago. Many will be phased out over the next 4 or 5 years and replaced by new trains although they will continue in service on First Great Western between London and Devon and Cornwall and some released by other operators will be refurbished and transferred to Scotrail |

Question: Why do British shunting diesel locomotive locomotives have pistons? Posted: 08 Nov 2014 09:28 PM PST They don't have pistons on the outside, but connecting rods. Being a diesel locomotive, they will, of course, have pistons in the engine as does any internal combustion engine. |
