Question: Is it illegal to change lane across a solid white lane? Posted: 16 Aug 2016 02:36 AM PDT Depends on your local driving laws. One source I found says that crossing a single white line (such as those marking the shoulder, between lanes at a stoplight (your situation), or between lanes on an on- or off-ramp is not illegal, but is "discouraged." So you can cross it, legally, but you should take all reasonable precautions when you do. From your description, it sounds as though the lady hit you... which is usually going to land most of the blame on them, unless they can show that the accident was unavoidable due to your actions. Best bet, get a legal opinion from a lawyer. |
