Question: Subwoofer and amp question? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 07:43 PM PDT It would help to know the actual model of your MTX subs. This TNE212D appears to match your description. It's RMS rating is 400 watts and the final impedance is 2 ohms. https://www.mtx.com/tne212d-mtx-car-subw... Crutchfield has an excellent article on matching amps and subwoofers, with all of the RMS and ohms stuff simplified. In a nutshell, you want the amp and subs to match for the appropriate power at whatever impedance the amp "sees". Crutchfield says the amp should provide a minimum of 75% and a maximum of 150% of whatever RMS power the subs are rated to handle. In the case of the TNE212D's that would mean your amp should output from 300-600 watts RMS. A little higher is usually better than a little lower. In the business they call it "headroom". If you are careful with the amp gain you won't overpower the subs. With an amp that is on the low side, the tendency may be to crank up the gain for more sound. Too much gain and the amp will "clip" causing distortion. Even worse, for the duration of the "clipping", the output is essentially DC which is death to any subwoofer coil. http://www.crutchfield.com/S-F2bVkeafVoy... There's lot's of mono amps that output from 300-600 watts RMS. This Kicker CX300.1 outputs 300 watts into 2 ohms. It's on sale at Best Buy for $99.99. http://www.bestbuy.com/site/kicker-cx-se... There's 2 Kenwood eXcelon amps here. One outputs 500 watts RMS and is $199.00, the other 600 watts RMS and is $299.00. The Rockford-Fosgate Punch 400 would also be a good choice at $349.00. http://www.soundwarehouseutah.com/amplifiers.htm |
Question: Why is my stereo not working with my speakers.? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 07:25 PM PDT Test each component separate from all other,s and isolate the problem. Test the speakers with another stereo, then check the head with another amp and speakers. Next check the amp. Once you have verified every component, your last is the wires, power and ground, to ensure proper connections. It is not really possible to check everything in place, you really need to check each component, against a working unit, by replacing your component into that working system, and verify it's operation is still functional. Once you know all your components work, you have to verify your wiring, checking for breaks, missing insulation, ground loops, and continuity end to end. Wiring is the hardest to check, and is commonly the problem, but you need to know all of your other stuff is working before you run down problems with your wiring. If you accidentally connected power to a ground or ground to power, many things can and usually will break, blow and not ever work again. One common problem with modern systems is improper connection to the amp, often need to connect the ground in order to turn it on. Another is not connecting the proper color wires for the car's wiring harness vs the radio harness - many are not color for color the same, and need some translation. Each maker has unique wiring, where many third-party or after-market radios use similar standardized colors between them. If all of your equipment has been verified, and wiring, ensure all of your connections are using the correct wires, and everything should work properly. |

Question: Dolby Cassette Player in Car Not Turning On? Posted: 15 Aug 2016 05:36 PM PDT Is it a reel to reel cassette deck or an 8 Track player? Seriously, you're 25 years behind the times with a cassette player. I recommend ripping the entire thing out of the vehicle and replacing it with some up to date technology regarding vehicle radios and music players. It's really not that expensive. However, given the year of the vehicle, a new radio/sound system is probably worth more than the vehicle. On second thought, I recommend contemplating replacing your vehicle or getting a portable device. |
