| Question: What is this building called? Posted: 08 Aug 2016 01:56 PM PDT A siding a Rail yard A train shed a Car barn. A rail Depot.Train Maintenance Facility It can have many Names. The train does not need to park indoors, When not in use. Most often the train cars move into a building for service. Be it a regular nightly check , routine scheduled maintenance or some special need. After the service the train then moves to a storage area maybe enclosed maybe partially weather protected. These are very expensive and large facilities. They build no more than necessary . For the purpose of just Parking most are kept outside on nearby tracks. Round houses are normally just for the locomotives. Each door leading to a specialized service spot. High Speed trains need a very though inspection regularly. They would more often be kept indoors until needed for next day. Commuter type cars are normally stored on sidings or outdoor yards when out of service, |
