Why do conservatives say that you have to lock your doors nowadays?

I live in an area with a lot of Mexicans, I know, scary, but I never ever lock any the 4 doors to my house. Hell, one time I forgot to close...

I'm 17 and have to drive to school and back everyday; I have my license. The thing is...I like the idea of riding a bike, but my aunt is willing to sell me her 1994 Buick Century car for $600 if I share it with my brother. Then, I have to pay for gas and insurance. So, is biking cheaper? I mean, I'd have to buy a $500 bike then accessories for each season.
If biking is cheaper can you tell me if it will save me more money buying at a LBS versus a cheaper bike online.
I don't have an allowance or a paycheck. I can borrow from my brother or sister, but I only have $400 flat on me now.
