Question: Coverage of broken window? Posted: 20 Sep 2014 08:50 AM PDT Yup, comprehensive coverage will cover that. It covers theft, damage by attempted theft and vandalism, and this was at least one of those things. Depending on what your vehicle is (year make model), the total damage might not cost more than your deductible. Go to any auto glass shop, preferably one that can bill Progressive directly, and see what it will cost. If you claim this through your policy, the insurer will almost always want a police report to be completed. Because that's the standard procedure, that's why. Seriously, there's no other reason. The cops will usually just give you a report number over the phone when you call them, and that's all you need. There's really no need for them to send an officer out just so he can look at your window and say "yep... it's broken", but they might do that if they have nothing better to do. Either way, you're good. |

Posted: 20 Sep 2014 06:23 AM PDT No such thing as voluntary repossession, a repossession is a repossession, and shows up on your credit report as such for the next 7 years. There are no documents to sign, and while it's nice to have the keys, they don't absolutely need them to get the car. I might add I hope you can trust your girlfriend to actually give the car up and not try to hide it and use it for her own needs. But I digress. Once they have your car, they will add the costs of the repossession onto the balance of what you owe, prepare the vehicle for auction sale, and sell it. What they get is typically far less than what you owe, and you will be billed for the difference. So you will still have payments to make, a bad mark on your credit, and no car. If you don't or can't pay, they will take you to court and add those costs and attorney fees to your balance, and probably win. You did sign a contract agreeing to their terms, and it isn't their fault you can't afford what you agreed to do. I'd talk to the creditor and do whatever it takes to avoid repossession if I were you. Perhaps you can find someone who could arrange with the bank to take over your loan and pay it off that way. |
