Question: SR-71 and MiG-25 speed record question? Posted: 10 Apr 2015 12:33 AM PDT Yes there are published SR-71 speed records, you may find them here: http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/srrcd~... Of course the Mig-25 has never been flown from New York to London, and not sure if they have any specific closed course records, but there are some notes here to clarify further... http://www.wvi.com/~sr71webmaster/mig25.... The most interesting point to note being that SR-71 was built to cruise at Mach 3+ and capable of sustaining it. The Mig-25 pilots were forbidden to exceed Mach 2.5, though the airframe was rated for Mach 2.8, and... Above Mach 2.8 the engines would overheat and burn up. The Americans had clocked a Mig-25 over Israel at Mach 3.2 in 1973. Upon landing in Egypt, the engines were totally destroyed. We did not understand that the engine destruction was inevitable. In comparison SR-71 has titanium in all the right places and can fly hi Mach for hours. |

Question: What are the best aviation schools in Los Angeles? Posted: 09 Apr 2015 06:10 PM PDT Want to become a commercial airline pilot...? Great...! All airlines are commercial (none are free) so just say "airline pilot" - it is short and clear enough - Where to go - I think you live in the San Fernando Valley since you mention Van Nuys airport - To save some money, consider Santa Paula (to get your private pilot license) - As far as training, the private pilot license is about $10,000 training all inclusive - Edit - Many books for private pilot training are published by the FAA on the internet - Do not expect to graduate from flight school and the next day become an airline pilot - |
