Question: Should i cut my ac belt on my 1977 f150or let it break off? Posted: 07 Apr 2015 05:12 PM PDT Assuming that belt only drives the AC? Then take it off. If you let it break the busted belt could fly around inside the engine bay and damage something else. Wiring, radiator hose etc. It's might just harmlessly fall out the bottom, or it could whip around the engine like a mutant weed whacker and break something important. If the belt also powers your brake booster, power steering or alternator, then you need to get a new one ASAP.
Question: What determines the power of an engine? Posted: 07 Apr 2015 04:52 PM PDT Main reason is displacement. The V8 engine has more cylinders, so that's more burning fuel to make power. If you built a 2 litre / 4 cyl engine, a 3 litre / 6 cly engine, and a 4 litre V8 engine. Assume the actual cylinder design is the same for each engine. Then the V8 is going to have 100% more power than the 4, and 50% more than the 6 isn't it. But it's not actually to do with the magic number 8, it's about having greater displacement. If you built a 2 litre V8 it would be more like the 2 litre / 4 cyl engine. Other factors do come into play. How many RPM the engine can spin at, and forced induction (turbos etc) So you could take your 2 litre engine and strengthen it to run at 9,000 rpm instead of 6,000. You could also add a turbo with 15 lb of boost. Now you are going to be taking in a similar amount of air / fuel each second to the standard V8, and should get similar power from the, at least for a while.

Question: Flashing Check Engine Light Grand Am? Posted: 07 Apr 2015 04:41 PM PDT Looking at a 2003 Grand am GT that is used. Its got a problem where the check engine light flashes, which I know means a misfire most the time, however he said his mechanic said it was the vacuum leak which, the hose has gotten weakened and collapsed on itself. Same roughness whether its being floored or idling (does not die). While running I unplugged the hose altogether and no real change in the way it ran. The other thing that is wrong with it is that the starter has to be tapped once with a hammer to work, like its stuck. I highly doubt its related but thought I would throw it in there. SORRY FOR THE LONG BACK STORY, but my question is, does this sound like a misfire or could the vacuum leak really cause this? I know I will have to replace the starter but I do NOT want to deal with a misfiring engine. Thanks!
