Question: Who makes the MOB wrist instrument in the movie 'turning tide'? Posted: 12 Apr 2015 04:38 PM PDT Some years ago I made a dead-man-switch device from a toddler alarm, which were popular in the 1980's - the device would beep when the transmitter (stuck to the 2-year-old) got too far away. So in my scheme it opened a relay to cut the motor. I was thinking of hooking it to an autopilot control like "helm to port" but never got around to it, and then the receiver turned out to be susceptible to RF interference from a new bilge blower, and finally I probably lost it. Also with experience I became less worried about falling overboard - at least, in the waters and weather conditions where I normally sail. But when it worked it did not rely on a working wrist device, just the absence of a working transmitter aboard the boat. I had heard of people trailing a long floating line, and thought that with a tillerpilot (as I have) a loop could be contrived to unhook the pilot from the tiller with a tug on the line. But I've never done that. |
