Question: Do you get the same quality sound after splicing speaker wire? Posted: 11 Apr 2015 04:34 AM PDT The tweeter case in my car door is cracked and I need to replace it. The fix will require me to take apart the door panel, so it will be much easier to simply splice the speaker wire. Will this produce the same quality of sound? Thank you for your help! |
Posted: 11 Apr 2015 03:08 AM PDT If it's a good quality sub, the enclosure is good quality, and the power is adequate it should provide plenty of output unless you're an all out bass head. Loudness -- SPL -- is generated by displacement. Displacement is a product of cone area (Sd) and cone travel (xmax). Most 10's and 12's within the same product line use the same or very similar motor structure -- so Xmax is the same or very similar, as is power handling. So SPL comes down to simply cone area. If you're comparing the same sub, just 10 vs 12, the potential for difference in loudness is only 1-2db. <1 is about impossible to detect. 2db would be noticeable, but not obvious. |
