Posted: 26 Apr 2015 08:06 PM PDT If you want to be an airline dispatcher in USA, there is only ONE name - Sheffield school of aeronautics, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida - They have trained thousands of dispatcher for USA and foreign air carriers - Other programs do not have either experience or excellent reputation - No "college" can match the experience they have - Assistant flight follower (not dispatcher) gets $2,500/month to start in USA - Five (5) of the dispatchers I worked with (Aerolineas Argentinas) were trained by Sheffield - |
Question: Ways into Commercial Airline Pilot from Secondary School Age? (Scotland, UK)? Posted: 26 Apr 2015 06:08 PM PDT Two choices - military service or civilian training. It's extraordinary difficult to become a military pilot, and it's extraordinarily expensive to become a civilian pilot. The military route costs nothing financially, but it costs about a dozen years of your time (or 4 years if you don't succeed in being selected as a pilot). The training to become a commercial pilot doesn't take long (about 18 months, full time), but it requires about eighty thousand pounds of expenditure followed by about a dozen years of experience as a working pilot to get hired by a major airline. So, if you're going to go the civilian route, first figure out how you're going to pay for and / or finance training, and then figure out how you're going to survive a dozen years on a hand-to-mouth salary as you're gaining experience. If you try the military route, be sure you're physically and educationally better than about 97% of your peers. And, of course, before you do any of that, make sure you're fit enough to pass the medical exam and be sure you do well enough in school (especially math and physics) to be able to get through the ground training without too much difficulty. |
Question: How is the life of a pilot(planes)? Posted: 26 Apr 2015 03:12 PM PDT In Mexico, the problem is finding an entry-level job. The bad news is that the airlines don't hire fresh flight school graduates with only 200-300 hours unless you know influential people in high places. Mexico also doesn't have a large "general aviation" (non-airline) fleet of aircraft where one can build up their experience, and the main competition for airline jobs will be from ex-military pilots. The good news is that not a lot of young people in Mexico can afford to become professional pilots, therefore once you become licensed you won't have nearly as much competition for a job as you would in other countries such as USA. The other good news is that in Mexico, professional pilots command a fairly high amount of respect as far as professions go. This in unlike the USA where pilots are generally regarded as about equal to bus drivers and cab drivers. But what is life going to be like? It depends. Everyone has a different experience. As a rule of thumb, expect the first 4-5 years to be a bit hard financially. As Pilsner Man said, get used to living on Ramen noodles. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but there's a grain of truth in it. Careers have an awful lot to do with who you know and being in the right place at the right time with the right experience. The more people you know in aviation who have a high regard for you, the more opportunities you will have. Good luck. |
