Posted: 12 Apr 2015 05:29 PM PDT for starters, it's because SMALL airplanes fit INSIDE of medium helicopters. but all in all, it's the very fact of HELICOPTERS landing with near to MAXIMUM power, whereas airPLANES land near to MINIMUM power setting. also, interference slash mutual exclusivity of airflow over rotary and fixed lift producing surfaces. cost effectiveness also has a word, because wherever you can land an airPLANE you don't want a helicopter to work because it's pricier. and the friggin Osprey is just .. epitome of inefficiency masked by the "military necessity" ![]() |
Question: Why does FLORIDA have so many small-plane wrecks? Posted: 12 Apr 2015 05:27 PM PDT The latest one happened today near an airport in Ft. Lauderdale; a Piper Navajo wrecked into the ground and the pilot killed himself and all three of his passengers. This happens a lot in Florida - I looked it up, and FL does indeed have a high rate of general aviation fatalities. Why is this? Alaska's rate is explained easily by weather and topography, but Florida is flat and sunny. There would seem to be no excuse. Should the FAA require more training for Florida-based pilots or something? They are not living up to the standards of the rest of the nation's GA pilots. But why? ![]() |
Question: What happens when Airlines did not follow their Pilot Manuals? Posted: 12 Apr 2015 03:04 PM PDT There is misconduct that earns a warning the first couple of time. Like turning up late for work. It's not an instant dismissal thing. You would have to follow procedure, verbal and written warnings and give the employee a 2nd, 3rd and probably 4th and 5th chance. In that case you have to have a record of the action taken. And then there is what's called "serious misconduct". Turning up drunk or assaulting a work mate? That can be grounds for on the spot suspension, and dismissal after a fair investigation. There is no record of previous disciplinary action, but that one event was serous enough to get you sacked. ![]() |
