Posted: 16 Apr 2015 08:27 AM PDT While a single minor conviction on your record won't do much to your insurance rates, two of them can be a problem. Usually not a huge problem, but even a small problem is still a problem. You asked a good question, but you asked it in the wrong place. Nobody here knows where you live (you didn't say), and insurance companies' rating rules vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction. That means that Allstate (just a random example) has different rating rules in New Jersey than they have in Idaho, and their rating rules in Ontario might be totally different from either state. It's all about the little nit-picky details. But I can tell you this for sure: You can negotiate with the prosecutor before your trial date. Often, not always but often, the prosecutor will hear your explanation and agree to cut you a deal. That deal may mean a suspended sentence, a 'fix it' ticket (like you're asking about), or they might throw out the charge altogether. Or they might decide to let a judge do all the deciding. |
Question: Can a dealership withhold a car title and tabs? Posted: 16 Apr 2015 08:24 AM PDT This is why you don't do business with buy-here pay-here lots. Since you have defaulted on payments, he will likely be repossessing the car, so I would not worry too much about the title. |

Question: Got into a minor fender bender? Posted: 16 Apr 2015 07:28 AM PDT No damage to my car. I hit this person's car at less than 3 mph so their car was not damaged, other than a slight chip in their paint on their bumper. We did not exchange insurance information and no police report was filed. The only thing that was exchanged was our cell phone numbers and our names because they did not want to get insurance involved. Today I received a text from this person with a quote from a body shop for $760. The damage was very minimal so this seems outrageous. My question: if I were to ignore this person and not return any of their phone calls or texts, could I get into trouble? As I said previously, no insurance information was exchanged and no police report was filed. FYI this happened in NY if that makes a difference. |
