Question: Can i tow a trailer with a learners permit in Virginia? Posted: 12 Apr 2015 09:55 AM PDT You need to call your DMV and ask. I looked up some stuff lime this last week and found that in my state, one must have a "valid driver's license" to tow anything. That eliminates all "learners" from being a further danger or nuisance on the road. So my educated guess is: NO. |

Posted: 12 Apr 2015 08:41 AM PDT High cost of labor happened. It is easy to blame unions but the problems are much greater than that; American workers make as much in an hour as workers in many places do in a day or more. For example, the first source notes that in the maquiladoras (Mexican plants in the free trade zone along the US border) "Mexican women work for approximately one-sixth of the U.S. hourly rate." Yet the relatively high paying jobs in the maquiladoras are highly sought. The train started rolling in the US with the minimum wage laws, starting in 1938 with a 25 cent minimum wage (about $4 today). Minimum wage rates are a big political football in the US, with various politicians garnering votes by promising to work to raise the minimum wage. Oakland, California, recently raised the minimum wage in the city from the state minimum of $9 to $12.25. Already a third of small businesses have reported they will have to close or move out of town and another third are planning to cut back their labor force and shift duties onto the remaining workers. Anyway, the auto industry in the US went on mostly with business as usual until the Arab Oil Embargo of 1973. America had backed Israel in the Yom Kippur War and Arab nations decided not to sell oil to the US in retaliation. Gas prices doubled in barely a month (I remember it well) and Americans started buying "foreign cars" in earnest for the first time. US automakers were caught off guard, having a miserable line of fuel efficient "econoboxes." Less money to operate meant something had to give, and that something was labor. Off-shore production saved the US auto industry. |
