In the US, do train crews get paid differently by the load?

Or does the pay rate stay the same regardless of whether you're pulling freight or just moving a locomotive from one yard to another?

Question: How much would a train ticket from indiana to california be?

Posted: 01 Sep 2014 07:43 AM PDT

Prices vary from about $225 for a coach to about $550 for a sleeping care. You are doing absolutely the right thing to plan your trip now as Amtrak uses a pricing system where tickets increase the later you order them. For example, if you were traveling this month (September) that $550 ticket would be over $1000. You would take a train to Chicago (either the Cardinal or Hoosier State) and probably have to spend the night. The next day you could take a train to either Los Angeles or to San Francisco. Once in California there are extensive train routes to other cities.

Go the the Amtrak website to see what stations are available in Indiana and what your options are. But buy your ticket early.

Question: Can CSX trains throw out smoke from its top?

Posted: 01 Sep 2014 06:36 AM PDT

So yesterday (August 31, 2014), me and my brother went biking to this new neighborhood that is located near these train tracks. But then I think I saw a CSX train throwing out smoke. I thought CSX trains don't throw out smoke. Maybe it might have been another train, though.

Also, I was on top of a bridge and the train was going through below us.

Question: How do you stop the escalator?

There are big, red emergency stop buttons at the top and bottom of each escalator. They are only for emergency use - there is a fine if you press them and there is no emergency.,

Question: How far away from the railroad tracks does your cross have to be?????

Posted: 31 Aug 2014 07:35 PM PDT

HUH ?.................. If you're asking how far to stop from the tracks,...give ' em plenty of space............trains occasionaly cause things to "fly" at the crossing, or even tear up the crossing if something hangs down from the train, if youre too close, you aint got a chance
