about $10 realistically. its a 3 minute job if you misplaced your thread sealer. do not use teflon tape that will cause erratic readings on your gauge.

Question: 1976 Corvette Stingray oil pressure slowly drops over period of about a month.?

Posted: 22 Oct 2014 04:36 PM PDT

I have a 1976 Corvette Stingray with 80,000 miles on the body and 4,000 on the rebuilt original engine. The engine sounds perfect, looks perfect and there is no smoke. If I fill the oil so that the car idles at 40 PSI, about a month later, it will idle at around 20PSI or less unless i fill it again. I've looked for leaks and the only thing I found is a small (VERY SMALL) pooling of oil around a bolt on the intake manifold. I replaced the gasket and it made no difference. The loss of oil there is nowhere near the amount that my engine seems to be losing according to the readings.

What could it be? If you'd like to see what the pooling of oil looks like, I'll gladly email you an image.

Question: Jeep Grand Cherokee AC problems?

Jeep Grand Cherokee AC problems?

I have a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 4.7 V8 with 131,000 miles on it. Just today, I got in, and I noticed that the AC was blowing weak and not as cold as usual. Then later, it started to smell like a belt when we turned the AC on. I'm no mechanic, but when I just checked the serpentine belt, it appeared to me as it is fine, but again, I'm not a mechanic. Everything to my knowledge preforms fine. Any idea what it is? Thanks!

Question: What electrical connections could cause BOTH of my Shift Solenoids to fail SIMULTANEOUSLY on my 1998 Crown Vic Police Car?

What electrical connections could cause BOTH of my Shift Solenoids to fail SIMULTANEOUSLY on my 1998 Crown Vic Police Car?

The 4R70W Automatic tranny is rebuilt, but came out of another, identical '98 CVPI. I noticed that it seemed to be perpetually in second and it displayed a trouble code. I have found out since that this is an intentional "Limp-in" mode. The trouble codes it displayed were for BOTH shift solenoids, and it indicated that they went out at the same time. That pointed me towards an electrical issue. I have unplugged, cleaned, and re-plugged all the connectors on the transmission. I checked the upright connector on the passenger side towards the back of the tranny. The plug end, and every pin receptacle was soaked with transmission fluid. The receptacle where the plug goes had about an 1/16th of an inch of transmission fluid in the bottom of it. I cleaned both the plug and receptacle completely and left it unplugged overnight to completely dry. I plugged it in, verified that the codes were clear, and drove the car around the neighborhood. Absolutely NO CHANGE! I know this tranny does NOT need a rebuild. There was/are no hot smells, the fluid level is right up where it is supposed to be, and it doesn't look or smell burnt. The problem has to be something electrical.
