Question: Chugging problem with Lincoln Town Car 4.6 Litre engine? Posted: 19 Nov 2015 04:55 PM PST Car is chugging (missing-misfiring) at 30-50 mph in 3rd and/or 4th gear it doesn't chug on idle. Earlier this year we had #4 ignition coil and Crank Position sensor changed. There are 8 ignition coils. #4 been replaced, we are waiting for the 'check engine light' to come on to be able to test the other 7 coils. It hasn't come on yet. It is very exasperating, because we don't want to change the other 7 coils to remedy the problem. Is there any other remedy? |
Posted: 19 Nov 2015 04:21 PM PST Smoke colors: Blue: oil White: water or transmission Black: gas (too rich) Loss of oil might be from drips on the ground (perhaps only while moving), or might be caused by defective piston rings (especially oil rings). Defective piston oil rings would soak spark plugs and cause a miss. You can find out by looking at the spark gap (if oily or dirty, then contaminated by oil). You can also try a wet/dry compression test (measure pressure in each spark plug hole, then squirt oil in hole and measure pressure. . . the oil temporarily seals the rings and causes pressure to rise, indicating worn rings). If you have to replace the head gasket, you might as well rebuild the heads, including magnaflux (at an engine rebuilding shop) to identify possible hairline cracks. You should replace worn valves and resurface the valve seats. You should replace worn (cupped) hydraulic lifters. After all, this is an old engine, so it has much wear. Oil can also be lost if it leaks into the exhaust or radiator water (due to a bad head gasket, cracked head, or cracked engine block). The problem might be simple. .. check if the vacuum tube from the transmission has fluid in it (indicating that the transmission vacuum modulator (costs $15 and easy to replace) has a broken membrane). That fluid could suck into the engine, fouling plugs. Skipping: Fouled plugs can misfire. But, so can bad plugs, plug wires, distributor, coil, etc. You can put a timing light on a plug wire to see if that plug or wire is firing correctly. You can unplug each plug to see if the problem gets worse. You can swap plug wires or plugs to see if the problem moves (thereby identifying the problem). Since the problem could be more expensive than the cost of the car, you might consider buying a different car. |

Question: Mods for my 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo? Posted: 19 Nov 2015 03:48 PM PST I put a LP560 bumper on my 04 bumper to replace my old 04 bumper. I also put a gps and a wing with a new exhaust system. I need more mods, I am a software designer and marketing entrepreneur and I really need some mods, mods that cost $5,000(my budget for the mods) |
