Posted: 20 Nov 2015 01:47 AM PST Peak power is meaningless. It's a 1000 watt RMS sub. You'll burn the living life out of the voice coils with 2000 watts RMS. With 2000 watts RMS, you're going to need to upgrade your car's electrical system. These upgrades consist of a high output alternator, replacing the stock battery for something better and doing the BIG 3. The optimum RMS power is 1000 watts RMS for that sub. The KAC-9106D is nowhere near 2000 watts RMS. It's good for around 1000 watts RMS at a 2 ohm load. That sub has dual 1.5 ohm voice coil. You're going to need a mono amp stable a 1 ohm. That Kenwood amp is NOT stable at 1 ohm. Get the P1000.1. It's cheaper than the JL 1000.1 and it'll work well. Wire it in parallel for a 1 ohm load. |

Question: Please help, Can a sub woofer and amp drain a high capacity car battery? Posted: 19 Nov 2015 07:58 PM PST Of course it can if your alternator can't keep it charged. A 1000 watt RMS amplifier can draw about 70 amps at full output, and 30-40 at moderate power. A typical car will draw 50-60 amps at night with headlights and other equipment on, and 30-40 in the daytime. An alternator should be able to provide at least 50% more power than the load placed on it or you cannot expect it to last long. It's better if the alternator is rated 2 times higher than the max load put on it. So in the day, with the car and amp drawing around 70 amps at moderate music volume, your alternator should be ok if it is rated for 100 amps , but at night your average load is probably over 100 amps, especially if you've got the subs cranked up. In that case I'd say your alternator should be at least 150 amps and preferably 200 amps or more in order to keep the battery charged and supply enough power to your vehicles electrical system and your sound system. .

Question: Why am I getting popping sounds from my car speakers when my stereo isn't even on? Posted: 19 Nov 2015 06:25 PM PST my car stereo isn't working properly, for the first ten minutes of a drive the volume cuts in and out intermittently, accompanied by a popping sound and a little bit of a hiss , then it works normally for the rest of the drive. anyway, today I drove home with my stereo off, and as I was stopped at a light i heard the same tell tale popping sounds , but my stereo was completely off, dark!! I say that its coming from my speakers, but it was hard to pinpoint, it could have been coming from my amp .. .I think the problem is my battery , I have a big pioneer amp in my trunk, and I suspect its designed to not run properly unless a certain amount of power is available to it, more power than my alternator can give it...and i've been testing my battery , i'm sure its dying. IF I'M RIGHT, THEN WHY IS MY AMP TRYING TO ACTIVATE ITSELF WHEN THE STEREO ISN'T EVEN ON? are they designed to power up and stay in some kind of stand-by mode? I"m not rulling out a loose connection somewhere, but it doesn't seem likely anymore now that i've heard that popping from a shut down car stereo system . The amp is a self contained piece of equipment wired right into the battery, it could be doing anything.. |
