Question: Shorted stereo ACC/Ignition wire in car.?

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 04:14 AM PDT

So after connecting all my wires to my new stereo i went to put it back in and my roof light dimmed and the stereo wiring started smoking so i shut the car off and yanked out the fuse then upon closer examination i realized a small part of the batt. wire was exposed and found its way to an exposed metal part of the stereo, so i covered it with electric tape and connected everything again, to find out the ACC wire had been shorted, so the thing ejects and loads but wont turn on. for the time being i connected it to the illumination wire so it turns on when i turn my lights on. but wont turn on unless theyre on. so my question is, how do i fix my acc wire?

Update : i cant find where the wire shorted

Question: Car GPS/Radio/TV Is Frozen. Help?

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 03:46 AM PDT

My 1999 Toyota Windom 3.0G (Badged as a Lexus ES300 everywhere but Japan) has a double din factory installed GPS/Radio/TV head unit that was working fine till today. Now it starts up but the buttons don't do anything, it's like it's frozen. It boots up and goes to its normal GPS screen (Says stuff in Japanese I don't understand - Probably something to do with the fact I have no GPS disk. It's a normal message though) and when I try to go to the radio or TV or anything there is just no response. However, if I push tilt or open (Moves screen to allow you to put in a disk) it works. Any idea what's wrong and what I can do to fix it? Bear in mind I'm 17 so I don't have much money.

P.S. It's a Jap import and I live in NZ. I'd prefer not to go to the toyota dealer, they'll charge me an arm and a leg just to look at the car.

P.P.S. This is a pic of a pretty much identical unit (https://img03.carview.co.jp/trade/img06/cars/545008/13040755/japan%20car/1998+toyota+windom/23.jpg)

Question: Will closing car door while music is playing damage the car speakers?

Posted: 06 Oct 2014 03:05 AM PDT

No more than closing the door when the speakers aren't playing music. You think there's no "vibration effect" when the speakers aren't working and someone slams the door?

+rolls eyes+ the things kids think up to worry about!

Question: Right speaker louder than my left?

Right speaker louder than my left?

I recently installed some Pioneer speakers in my car only the rear since the previous owner blew one of the originals. After I installed it I hooked up a new stereo to my car too. And when I put the fader and balance to the rear right speaker I realized it wasn't as loud as my left almost distorted sound. At a low volume it is noticeable but at higher volumes it's hard to tell. Any suggestions?

Question: Speakers stopped working in car?

Posted: 05 Oct 2014 11:40 PM PDT

About 10 minutes ago i was driving around playing music softly on my Alpine type S system and as i was changing songs, there was a static sound and then nothing at all...

The headunit which is stock was working fine and i fiddled with it trying to see if i somehow caused it. But the problem wasn't fixed.

I got it installed by a shop so i hope it is fixed by the morning or i will have to take it to them and rake out more money to get it fixed.

Any ideas on what to do? The car is a 2013 kia cerato/forte.
